Meet the team
Sherin Allan (Dentist)
I am Sherin Allan, Principal dentist at Dental care on Barrington, located in the heart of Barrington. With a passion for dentistry and a commitment to providing the best possible care, I strive to make every patient's visit a positive experience.
I earned my Bachelor of Dental Surgery back in 2008 and went on to obtain a Master's in Oral medicine. My approach to dentistry is rooted in the belief that a healthy smile is fundamental to overall well-being. I prioritize patient education, ensuring that everyone who walks through our doors understands their treatment options and treated with compassion. By staying updated with the latest advancements in dental technology and practices, I ensure that our patients receive state-of-the-art care.
When I'm not in the office, I enjoy trekking which help me stay balanced and energized. Whether it's exploring the beautiful places or spending time with my family, these interests allow me to bring a refreshed perspective to my practice.

Michelle Ling (Dentist)
Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago in 2019. She began her career as an associate dentist in Tauranga’s CBD before returning to her hometown of Christchurch, where she had completed all her schooling. Since then, she has been working in private practice and is now a valued member of the DentalCare on Barrington team.
Currently pursuing postgraduate studies in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, Michelle is passionate about combining precision and clinical excellence with artistry to deliver high-quality, contemporary care. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry — from dental emergencies to surgical procedures — and is a certified Invisalign provider.
Known for her gentle and attentive manner, Michelle is dedicated to creating a calm, personalised experience for every patient. She is deeply in tune with lifelong learning and regularly undertakes professional development to ensure her patients benefit from the latest techniques and evidence-based practices.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, she connects easily with a diverse range of patients. Outside the clinic, Michelle leads an active lifestyle — whether hiking scenic trails, playing golf, or practicing Pilates — and expresses her creativity through ToothTales.Co on Instagram, graphic design, playing the piano and violin, baking, and quality time with her loved ones.

David Lai (Hygienist)
I graduated from Otago University in 2016 and worked in the Southern DHB, down in Dunedin for about one year. In that time, I worked under my therapy scope of practice and treated mainly 0- to 12-year-olds. I then decided it was time to come back home to Christchurch where I was born and raised, and began working under my hygiene scope of practice since 2018.
I understand that dentistry is a source of anxiety for many people, but I also believe it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’ve had a bad experience or are just getting started in your oral health journey, I will try my best to be as compassionate and empathetic to your concerns as I can.
My passion for my job comes from seeing the transformations in my patients. Whether it be from changing to good oral hygiene habits, improvement in their oral health condition, and/or making dental hygiene a less anxious experience then I believe I have done my job.
Outside of dentistry, you’ll most likely find me either in the gym, running around the streets of Christchurch, hiking the mountain tops or snowboarding during the winter months.
